I, Ruth Rosie Ewert was born to Rev. Albert & Rosie (Tieszen) Ewert on April 15, 1935 at home near Lustre, Montana with the help of a midwife. I attended part of the 1st grade in Wolf Point, Montana and then transferred to the Volt Country School until 1947 when my family moved to Bridgewater, SD where I graduated from in 1954. In 1949, I was baptized by my father, Rev Albert Ewert and became a member of the Neu Hutterthal Church.

On May 26, 1954, I was united in marriage to David E. Glanzer by my father Rev. Albert Ewert. We began our married life on an acreage near Bridgewater, in 1956 we moved to Spencer, SD where we resided most of our married life. Dave passed away on 12/08/2018 and in 2022 I then went to live at Freeman Regional Nursing Home.

I entered the work force in June of 1968 as a Dietary Aide at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell. Upon completion of a correspondence course from the University of North Dakota in Fargo I became a Certified Dietary Manager in 1976. I was a member of the Hospital Institutional & Education Food Service Society as well as a member of the South Dakota Dietary Managers Association. In November of 1988, I received the Employee of the Month Award of St. Joseph Hospital. After having been employed for 25 years I became a member of the LAMPS (Loyal Ambassadors of the Mission of the Presentation Sisters) of which I remained a member until my passing. I retired from St. Joseph/Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in May of 2000 after 32 years of employment.

I enjoyed listening to gospel music on the Del Rio Texas station in the evening. I also played my accordion and sang in the “Gospel Heralds” girl’s quartet for several years. In my spare time I enjoyed embroidering quilt blocks for quilts that were given to the grandchildren, also making blue jean quilts and making some quilts for friends.

I remember when having the measles at Christmas time , riding the train for visits to South Dakota, hand picking corn in one of Grandpa Tieszen’s fields, spending holidays at both grandparents homes, babysitting grandchildren, playing softball in the yard, playing board games and cards, fishing and camping with family, attending sporting events of grandchildren & great grandchildren. I even went tubing at age 70.

I am survived by 7 children: Clyde (Valerie) of Sioux Falls, SD, Donna (John) Ruden of Spencer, SD, Dwight (Stacey) of North Sioux City, SD, Lois (Brad) Hofer of Bridgewater, SD, Rosie (Ron) Reif of Spencer, SD, Sharon (Scott) Reif of Spencer, SD, Karen (Don) Mentele of Pierre, SD, son-n-law Wayne Olivier of Watertown, SD, 23 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. Siblings: Rueben (Jewel) Ewert, Brush, Co, Amos (Donna) Ewert, Plantation, Fl, Priscilla (Gene) Applewick, Paradise Valley, Az.

Preceded in death by: my parents, husband, infant daughter, daughter Eunice Olivier, grandchildren: Rocky Hofer & Jared Glanzer, great grandchildren: Emma VanDusseldorp & Brody Mentele, parents-in-law David SW & Elizabeth Glanzer.
