John Schwartz was born June 18, 1925 to Fred and Sadie [Albright] Schwartz. He joined his brother Curt and was later followed by sister Violet. John died on October 1, 2024 at his home in Marion.

John attended Brookside District 65 for 8 years and Freeman Academy for 4 years. In his youth he was baptized by H. Albert Claasen, and became a member of Salem Zion Mennonite Church where he remained a member for his entire life. He attended faithfully until his health denied him that privilege.

On June 1, 1955 John was united in marriage to Rosella Thieszen in Henderson, Nebraska. This union lasted 69 years until his death. John and Rosella had two children, Nancy Joy, of Toronto, Ontario and Robert John (Brooke), Tulsa, Oklahoma. They had one grandson, Benjamin Robert Schwartz.

John spent almost all off his working life employed by Farmers Coop Association of Marion, SD working with grain, feed, and fertilizer. After his retirement he worked short term jobs in the harvest fields and a variety of other jobs. John was always fascinated by the beauty of wood. He spent a lot of time in his shop creating beautiful wooden art that will be cherished. He enjoyed woodworking until health problems no longer allowed it.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Curt and sister-in-law Violet, and his sister Violet and brother-in-law Ernie Porzelius. Left behind to remember him are his wife Rosella, daughter Nancy Joy, son Robert John, daughter-in-law Brooke and grandson Benjamin, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families and many cherished friends.

The Lord is my Shepherd…..And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23
